The process of sensing the physical, emotional, and intellectual obstructions to our vital life force often feels incredibly dense and impossible to change. However, it is the act of awareness that becomes the first step toward no longer imposing upon an intelligent and internal feedback system. Developing core awareness is a process of intentionally unlearning, and by doing so, we free ourselves to move, think, feel, and be expressive in new ways.
Core Wounds
Confusion is an important cue for recognizing conditioning that may be interfering with proprioception. When our experience is painful, feelings of confusion rather than clarity can emerge. If we were once told or conditioned that our inner sensations cannot or should not be trusted, there will be feelings of an ongoing internal conflict. Confusion can reflect an energetic block or an emotional wound.
Homeopathy calls that which stops the flow of life force a person’s essential wound. Armoring, such as of muscular tension, forms around our vulnerabilities and stops the flow of energy. It is muscular tension that limits movement, decreases the breath, and stops us from feeling.
In the animal world, playing dead or freezing is an essential survival tool. By impeding the flow of energy, an animal reserves his or her life force and becomes invisible. Limiting movement is an essential survival technique that creates a feeling of safety.
Core awareness is a powerful means for healing emotional, spiritual, and physical wounds. Each time we turn toward ourselves not only is our conditioning revealed, but also sensory memory is retrieved. We deepen coherency within our core by matching the intensity of our internal experience with the outward five senses: impressions from light, sound, pressure, taste, and smell. Rather than attempt to tear down armoring, focusing on sensation, awakening proprioception, and centering into the core honors the healing process. Open attention to sensation is a revitalizing process by which armoring, no longer necessary, simply falls away.
